The Hastings Highway 61 Mississippi River Bridge (1951-2013) was shut down permanently last night, with all its traffic being rerouted to the new bridge next to it. Demolition of the south approach will begin immediately so access to the new bridge’s other lanes can commence. The main structure’s dismantling will wait until November, when shipping season ends.
